Gold-filled

Gold filled is composed of a solid layer of gold mechanically bonded to a base of either sterling silver or some base metal. Most high quality gold-filled pieces have the same appearance as high carat gold, and even with daily wear, can last many years.  The layer of gold on Gold filled items is 10-25 times thicker than that produced by regular gold plating. As a result, it costs more than Gold plating products but worthy enough for its quality and persistence.

Gold-filled care

Gold filled is made by fusing a layer of 14kt gold to a base metal like brass that results in a permanent bond. Unlike sterling silver, gold filled metals will not tarnish due to exposure to the air and water. However, on occasion it can darken when exposed to chemicals like perfumes, chlorine, etc. It can also react to a person's PH level on their skin. For most people though, gold filled will retain its shiny color and will not change over time.  So, taking off items before shower or swimming would help to keep their original condition. If it is darkened in a long term, use Jewelry cloth to clean it as same as gold or sterling silver. Please be gentle. It will shine again!!
